South west of France is one of the most irresistible region of France. The sun is usually shining and there are many beautiful places to visit. South west of France could be divided in 6 regions : Bordeaux and the Atlantic coast (La Rochelle, Cognac, Bassin d'Arcachon) / The Basque country (Biarritz, Saint Jean de Luz...) / The Pyrenees (Lourdes...) / Toulouse and the midi (Roquefort...) /and in the south west - center of France :  Massif central and Limousin (Clermont Ferrand, Limoges...) / Dordogne and Perigord (Bergerac, Sarlat la Caneda...).

 

South west of France : Bordeaux and the atlantic coast (Cognac, La Rochelle, Arcachon...)

Sandy beaches, châteaux and vineyards, the Atlantic coast in south west of France and Bordeaux welcomes you!

Bordeaux, in the south west of France, is a beautiful city with an elegant 18th century uniformal architecture.

Bordeaux wine region, around Bordeaux has its own worldwide reputation : the vineyards of Bordeaux produce well known wines such as Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Graves, Medoc (Pauillac, Margaux, Saint Estephe, Saint Julien...), Sauternes...

Charente Poitou is a nice region with interesting towns (Poitiers, Saintes, Cognac...), resorts (La Rochelle, Royan...), alcohols (Cognac brandy, Pineau des Charentes, white wines...) and islands (Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oléron...)

Arcachon and its "Arcachon bassin" is like a small mediterranean sea on the atlantic coast. If you go to Arcachon Bassin, don't miss the Cap Ferret (a cape situated in front of Arcachon) and the Dune de Pyla, which is the highest dune of Europe

South west of France : The Basque Country (Biarritz, Saint Jean de Luz...)

Biarritz is an ancient whale fishing port transformed in the mid-nineteenth century into a playground for monarchs. 

St Jean-de-Luz is a beautiful seaside resort with a medieval and typical basque architecture and an nice port.

South west of France : Pyrénées (Lourdes, Tarbes, Pyrenees National Parc...) 

The Pyrénées, in the south west of France, are mountains between France and Spain.

Lourdes is one of the greatest catholic pilgrimage town of the World since in 1858, Bernadette saw the Virgin in a cave. 

  • Pyrenees National Parc

The Parc National des Pyrénées is a wonderful preserved park with great landscapes of mountains and lakes, and several hundred kilometers of walking routes. 

South west of France : Toulouse and the midi (Albi, Roquefort...)

Toulouse is a lively and cosmopolitan city with an architectural uniformity and rose color walls, so it is usually called the rose city ("La ville rose").

  • Midi-Pyrénées in the south west of France

Midi-Pyrénées is a region with agricultural and historical landscape (castles, romanesque churches...). 

It is the country of gastronomy (foie gras, cassoulet, roquefort...) and good beverages (Cahors wine, Armagnac....).

South west - center of France : Auvergne (clermont Ferrand...), Massif central and Limousin (Limoges...)

  • Auvergne and Massif Central (center of France)

Situated in the very center of France, Auvergne and the Massif Central are some of the last unspoiled regions of France, known for their green landscapes. They are very natural and beautiful regions, offering many places to see (Puy de Sancy, La Bourboule, Puy de Dome (an extinct volcanoe), Saint-Nectaire...) and many things to taste (cheese, sausages...)!

  • Limousin and Limoges (South west - center of France)

Limousin is an agricultural and preserved region with beautiful landscape. Limoges is the big city of Limousin, reknowned for its "porcelaine"

South west - center of France : Dordogne and Perigord (Sarlat la Caneda, Bergerac...)

Foie gras and specialities of Perigord, manors and castles, prehistoric spots... Dordogne welcomes you!

Sarla la Caneda is a beautiful, small medieval town.

Pergigord is very rich in prehistoric attractions (Lascaux, Les Eyzies, vallée de la Vézère...)
