Places to see in the West of France : Brittany, Loire valley...

West of France could be divided in two main regions : Brittany and Loire valley.

West of France Brittany : Saint Malo, Roscoff, Dinan, Pont Aven, Carnac, Quimper, Concarneau, La Baule, Belle ile...

Brittany is a wild and genuine region with a long rocky and jagged coastline. Brittany has a special culture, the Breton culture (with french crepes and cider, celtic culture...) and beautiful medieval and walled towns. Here are some of our favourites towns and beaches, from the North to the South of the Brittany peninsula :

Saint Malo

Saint Malo is well known for its rampart walls which make of Saint Malo a beautiful walled city.

Dinan

Dinan is a beautiful town with ancient ramparts and castle, and an estuary port.

Roscoff

Roscoff is a seaside resort with a port, a nice waterfront and beaches.

Pont Aven

Pont Aven is a small port known for its watermills and the incoming of Paul Gauguin.

Concarneau

Concarneau is a medieval walled town and it has a big fishing port.

Carnac

Carnac is well-known for it's "menhir" stones alignments.

Belle Ile

Belle Ile is the biggest island of Brittany and its name means "beautiful island", which speaks of itself...

La Baule

La Baule beach is beautiful fine sandy beach with a pleasant seafront promenade.

West of France Loire Valley (Tours, Chartres...), wines  and chateaux (Loire valley castles)

Chartres

Chartres is well known for its gothic cathedral with a green roof.

Tours

Tours is a good center town for visiting Loire valley. It is known for its wine and food.

Loire valley castles (chateaux)

Loire valley means chateaux, but Loire Valley is also called the garden of France because of its "douceur de vivre".

We may suggest you to see at least two castles in the Loire valley :

Chateau de Chenonceaux was built next and over the Cher river.

Chambord is a wonderful and awesome castle.

But there are many other beautiful castles to see in the Loire valley (Azay-le-Rideau castle, Amboise castle, Chinon castle, Cheverny castle, Villandry castle..), situated around the Loire valley towns (Blois, Tours, Saumur...) and don't miss wines of the Loire valley, that must be discovered and tasted !
